Hello Folks!
It’s Lisa here from the Art & Craft Business side of the eMoms family. Wendy (my boss – she’s not bossy at all, instead she’s very supportive and generous) has asked the rest of the eMoms to pipe up and talk about our experiences thus far since joining the family. Gosh, it feels a little funny to be addressing such a diverse group of people (some of which whose marketing, SEO, time management etc. skills I’d happily eat my leg for and others whom (like me) are enjoying finding new and better ways to earn themselves a living out of doing what they love at home), usually I write for a crafter audience
A bit of business background:
As some of you may already know I own a bag making supplies shop which I run in my pajamas from an office 3 mins my house. I am currently in my 2nd year of trading, I’m blessed enough to be a very busy person, and I really love what I do. Before my shop went live I had never run a e-comm site before, in fact I had never had any presence on the web before and I started blogging just over a year ago. I’ve learnt most everything about blogging and running an e-comm site on the fly, I don’t have a tech geek background and neither does my partner (unfortunately) I’m just fascinated by e-commerce and I’m boringly obsessed with what I do (I do warn folks about this at dinner parties so they have the option of swapping seats he! he!).
A bit of blogging background:
I started blogging in Nov 06 (from having no experience in blogging) and quickly decided that blogging is one of the best marketing tools an ecomm site can have. Thanks to my blog, my spend with Google pay-per-pound-of-flesh-click is less than a 3rd compared to when started using Google. Blogs are so much cheaper and infinitely more effective at obtaining and maintaining a web presence. Blogs are just the way to go and I can’t see that changing, only evolving. Is it any wonder that more and more of us are turning away from our TVs in favour of all of that free info (that you choose to view) available online?
So what have I learned since I joined the eMoms family?
- I have really enjoyed getting into a more international mind-set with eMoms readers. I love hearing about the different cultural references and how the internet provides us all with the same table to sit around and share. I find that sooooo exciting, me based in London having a chat with folks all over the US, the Philippines, and Germany in one evening and Spain, Japan, and Australia the next! We all have so much to offer each other in terms of ideas and information and we can just log-on and do it! And it makes our lives better for doing so!
- Wendy and I had a pretty good idea that an Arts and Crafts channel would be a welcome addition to eMoms, but I have to say, I didn’t realize it would be THIS welcome! We are very grateful for your enthusiastic response and plans are afoot (can’t say what and when yet) to improve upon what we have now. I am wholeheartedly behind it because running my own Craft Business has meant so much to me in my life that I feel it’s too good to keep to myself!
- I am continually bowled over by my readers. You lead such full lives! You have energetic kids (sometimes those kids have special needs and they need an extra bit more love and time), you hold down full-time jobs, you have loads of other hobbies, you do great stuff for charity, you have your own business, and more! Yet you still manage to muster up the enthusiasm to learn about new stuff, research into setting up your own business, blog, craft, and more! You lot regularly make me look like a lazy ass! From hearing from you it seems to me that you folks lead such full lives and they are incredibly blog worthy in their own right – like, have you got your own blog yet!!??
